Purple Party Weekend 2012 is back and it’s better then ever. You don’t want miss a fantastic, world-class entertainment line-up and some amazing new venues. Purple Party Weekend attracts dance-music lovers from all over the world and is one of the largest nonprofit, all-volunteer dance fundraisers in the United States. The entertainment line-up includes Wayne G, Joe Gauthreaux, Alyson Calagna, Corey Craig, Paulo, Michael Tank, and many more! You won’t want to miss this incredible weekend benefiting AIDS Services of Dallas.

Established in 2001, Purple Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all-volunteer organization whose mission is to raise funds to improve the lives of people in the Dallas area who are living with or are affected by HIV/AIDS. With donated proceeds of more than $400,000, Purple Foundation has become an invaluable source of revenue for local charity organizations whose work reflects our mission.

It’s not too late to get tickets to this years events. Online sales end Wednesday night at midnight. After that, you may purchase them at NUVO (cash only) or at our welcome center at the Crowne Plaza on the 9th floor (cash or credit). The welcome center opens Friday afternoon at 1:00PM until 8:00PM. You may pick up tickets purchased online at the welcome center or at the door to the Friday night event at Station 4. However, we encourage you to get them early for quicker entry. See you there!

Oaklawn, Cedar Springs, The Strip, The Gayborhood… whatever you’ve heard this area called, Home is what we want it to be to our residents.

ilume was named “Gayest Apartment Complex 2012” by the Dallas Voice and it is a title we wear proudly. Our complex is home to the Dallas Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and has been featured in many episodes of the hit television series A-List Dallas. We co-hosted the 2012 Red Party Launch Party with Dish and we also donate generously to many gay and lesbian philanthropic organizations throughout the Dallas area.

For over 30 years Oaklawn has been an integral part in the lives of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Dallas residents. Whether you currently live in Dallas or are considering a move to Dallas we want to give you a glimpse of the places and people just outside our doors.

April is almost over and Dish is sending it out in style. Drag Brunch is back on Sunday April 29th from 11am to 3pm. If you haven’t been to one yet it’s the most fabulous brunch in Dallas. Get ready for entertaining performances from Jenna P, Jenna Sky, and Candis Cayne while you and your friends sip on $10 bottomless Mimosas or Bloody Mary’s while trying out one of their new brunch menu items.

65 % of Dallas residents say they spring-clean. If you’re clearing out your closets here at the ilume this spring, don’t just dump what you no longer need. Be green or make some green after you clean by taking the ilume Spring Green Challenge. Be sure consider one of these area charities for donations Resource Center Dallas, Youth First Texas, Cathedral of Hope or Gensis Women’s Shelter Thrift Store. Don’t forget donated items get a tax deduction. Here’s our guide to green choices while spring cleaning here at the ilume.

1. Sell secondhand. Clothing and electronics can be re-sold to national secondhand retail chains Play It Again Sports, GameStop (video games and consoles), Plato’s Closet (teen and young adult clothes and accessories), and Music Go Round (instruments) will pay you for used items. If you bought a exercise bike for $400 one years ago and have used it more as a rack to hang your wet towels l, you could make around $75 at a resale shop.

2. Go online. No matter how junky or trashy you think an item is, someone somewhere will pay you for it. There are three ways to go on the Web: You can sell items on amazon.com or ebay.com, and ship them at the buyer’s expense, as long as the prices you’ll charge will more than cover the sales fees listed on the Websites and the packing materials. You can sell your electronics to gazelle.com, which lists its purchase price online after you describe what you’re unloading. You can all ways post a notice on  craigslist.org or backpage.com and have a local customer come to your home. Just be careful who you allow in your home!

3. Donate to charity. Charities like Resource Center Dallas and Youth First Texas often need clothing or household items in good condition; in return, you’ll get a tax deduction. Donations of big-ticket electronics and furniture, however, can turn into tidy write-offs. “If you donate a computer now worth $500, you can deduct $500 from your taxable income, which would translate to a savings of about $75 for you on your taxes.Check their websites for more information www.rcdallas.org & www.youthfirsttexas.org

The 4th Annual Cedar Springs Art Festival is back and bigger than ever!  This event has become an important showcase for artist of all mediums. Especially GLBT artists in Dallas. From traditional to modern it is a festival that is as diverse as the community that it calls home. One of the great things about the Cedar Springs Art Festival is the variety of art and activities available. Whatever your taste in art, you will find something that speaks to your style and if you’re looking for a great art piece for your home you will find prices that are reasonable.

Cedar Springs Road will be Closed from Reagan to Knight Street to showcase over 125 Artisans from Paintings, Ceramics, Sculpture, Furniture, Candles, Art Glass, Phototography, Art Jewelry and much much more. There will be plenty of food and beer vendors. All of the merchants on Cedar Springs will be offering Art Festival Specials, Discounts, and Give-a-ways. Come out and Shop, Dine and Play and Don’t miss out on all of the fun on the Most Eclectic Street in Dallas!
